When scientists began tracking Pallid Sturgeon in the Midwest, their many different contracted crews along the Missouri River needed a net that would work in the snag infested River......all 600 miles of it!
Fish , Game and other agencies contacted INS with the idea of developing a new , tougher benthic sampling trawl to replace the older nylon trawls that just kept tearing up in the river. Greg Faulkner travelled to the Midwest and joined the state DNR crew on the river for a 3 day trial run.
After several prototypes were tested, it was eventually determined to go with the SKT 16 Model 38 15/18 or the OT-1 as described by the USFWS protocol.
From this early beginning, INS developed a working relationship with a list of agencies working on the Pallid project .
Nets such as the Mini-Missouri Trawl , Missouri trawl, aka, Herzog -Armadillo Trawl*, the Push Net, the Sidewinder and the HBB 16x6 benthic net also made their way from the INS net shop to the Midwest rivers and tributaries. * aka the Missouri Trawl was NOT invented by INS. It was only seriously beefed up in construction details
INS not only delivers gear but we back it up with solid follow up modifications if the need arises. Trawl and net design is our forte'. We love the challenge of working with agencies that are having trouble getting the gear they want.
Everybody on the internet offers "Custom" work.....we actually can deliver it ...time and time again.
So whether you're involved in the Sturgeon Work or some other fishery management that requires special nets, give us a call. Ask for Greg.
